Sizable Energy is an innovative deep-tech startup pioneering offshore pumped-brine PHES (Pumped-Hydro Energy Storage). Our revolutionary approach offers a scalable, sustainable solution to balance variable renewable energy sources globally. By leveraging components from established offshore wind and marine industries, we are positioned to become a leader in the Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) market.
The Role
We are looking for a CFD & Mechanical Engineer to support the Senior Mechanical Engineer and the engineering team in the design, development, analysis, and validation of hydraulic and mechanical components for Sizable Energy's technology. You will work closely with the Senior Mechanical Engineer, contributing directly to 3D modeling, sizing calculations, fluid dynamics and structural simulations, while also drafting technical documentation and preparing and executing experimental campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
You will support the Senior Mechanical Engineer through the following activities:
Simulation & Analysis: Prepare models for FEM, CFD, and thermal analysis, execute calculations, and interpret results to produce detailed technical reports under senior supervision.
Mechanical Design: Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies for hydraulic components (e.g., axial turbines, pumps) using CAD software (SolidWorks/Inventor), contributing to preliminary sizing calculations and structural verification.
Experimental Validation: Manage the setup and execution of experimental campaigns (internal and external), including prototype assembly, data collection, and the drafting of specific test procedures.
Data Interpretation: Analyze experimental data to formulate technical recommendations and support the drafting of comprehensive testing reports.
Technical Documentation: Collaborate in drafting technical specifications for components, calculation reports, and system documentation to support project requirements.
Prototyping & Integration: Assist in the manufacturing and assembly phases of prototypes and interact with suppliers to facilitate system integration and preliminary testing.
Continuous Development: Actively engage in learning Sizable Energy’s specific technologies and stay updated on relevant technological developments to support the team’s growth.
Requirements
Education & Experience: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or equivalent. 1-3 years of experience in roles primarily focused on fluid dynamics design, mechanical design, or in R&D contexts.
Technical Skills: Good knowledge of mechanical engineering and fluid dynamics principles. Excellent command of 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar). Knowledge and proficiency in the use of CAE simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar) and autonomy in implementing analyses. Excellent command in the use of fluid dynamics simulation software (e.g., FLUENT, CFX, OpenFoam) and autonomy in implementing analyses. Knowledge of applications in hydraulic machinery. Interest and aptitude for experimental and laboratory activities. Ability to draft technical documentation (drawings, basic specifications, procedures, calculation reports). Familiarity with main office automation tools.
Languages: English: Professional fluency (C1 level or higher) is mandatory.
Personal Profile
Entrepreneurial Mindset: You are autonomous, fast, and eager to make strategic decisions.
Adaptability: You demonstrate exceptional flexibility and curiosity in a fast-paced deep-tech environment.
Willingness to Travel: Available to visit suppliers, trade fairs, and assembly/test sites.
Why Join Sizable Energy?
Impact: Work on a technology that is the definitive solution for a 100% renewable grid. Growth: A concrete opportunity to own significant technical and strategic responsibilities. We offer both vertical and horizontal career growth. Culture: Join a team of bright, ambitious, and humble professionals who are passionate about their work and sustainability.
