University of Padova Tests Confirm Sizable Energy's Reservoir Design

Sizable Energy is pleased to announce the successful completion of a 2D scale-model testing campaign with the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (ICEA) at the renowned University of Padova, Italy. The tests validate key design optimizations for the company's innovative offshore energy storage solution.
The experimental campaign, led by Prof. Piero Ruol and Prof. Luca Martinelli in the university's maritime laboratory during June- July 2023, aimed to assess and optimize the hydrodynamic performance of Sizable's floating reservoir. The focus was on the geometry of the external wave barrier and the reservoir's leading edge to minimize wave overtopping under a range of operational and extreme conditions.
The results confirmed the effectiveness of the design. Crucially, the optimized configuration of the external barrier and leading edge proved to virtually eliminate overtopping, with the structure effectively floating over the waves as intended. This successful validation is a vital milestone, perfecting the technology ahead of the next phase of at-sea deployment.
"During the tests, we did not observe overtopping in the reservoir. Only minor spray. In practice, the structure floats over the waves" noted Prof. Luca Martinelli, the scientific lead for the testing.
"The positive results from the University of Padova provide another layer of third-party validation for our core technology," said Dr. Manuele Aufiero, CEO and Co-Founder of Sizable Energy. "This rigorous testing establishes the reliability of our design and reinforces the strong foundation for our upcoming deployments."
Sizable Energy extends its sincere thanks to Prof. Piero Ruol, Prof. Luca Martinelli, and the entire team at the University of Padova for their technical partnership and outstanding contributions throughout the campaign.
